Caring for Your Waxed Chain: Vélo IBIKE Tips
Just like any lubrication system, a waxed chain requires periodic reapplication to maintain its benefits. For optimal performance, a waxed chain should be re-immersed or treated with drip wax at regular intervals.
Vélo IBIKE’s Pro Tip: Keep two waxed chains and a bottle of Silca’s Super Secret Drip.
- After approximately 250 km of riding, apply the drip product.
- Shift your chain to the big front chain ring and big rear cog combination (big/big gear).
- Shake the Silca Super Secret Drip bottle well; apply one drop per roller on the chain.
- Backpedal about 10 times to help the wax penetrate the chain links.
- Repeat the application for the top section of the chain, then backpedal about 10 times in the small front chain ring and small rear cog combination (small/small gear).
- Allow the chain to sit for at least 8 hours (overnight is preferable) for proper curing.
Re-apply the drip wax every 250 km and consider a full re-waxing (hot-melt immersion) around every 1000 km. Rotating between two waxed chains ensures consistent performance and extends the lifespan of both your chains and your drivetrain.
